Hello people:) After returning from a long cruise from Barcelona to Singapore, I decided to write a special post about the Majestic Princess, in a Q & A (Question and Answer) style, and not just about it, but also about other ships and cruises from this company. I was inspired by your questions, from which I chose the most frequent ones, which I suppose could be of interest to more readers, so I will answer them here. Ahoj lidi:) Po návratu z plavby z Barcelony do Singapuru jsem se rozhodla napsat speciální příspěvek o lodi Majestic Princess, ve stylu Q&A (Question and Answer), a nejen o ní, ale i o dalších lodích a plavbách téhle společnosti. Inspirovaly mě k tomu vaše dotazy, z nichž jsem vybrala ty nejčastější, o nichž předpokládám, že odpovědi by mohly zajímat více čtenářů. What is the cruise you were on?
In May, we set out for a 35-day trip from Barcelona to Singapore. It was organized by Princess Cruises, which offers dozens of different cruises on practically all seas of the world. You can choose Europe, Asia, Australia, South, Central and North America, sailing partly or around the world. You can also travel on land, before or after the cruise, which we did in Alaska. Tours with Princess can also be seen in Prague, one of the land routes, which leads from Budapest via Vienna and Prague to Germany, where you get on a cruise ship. The big advantage is that the Princess itinerary program varies and changes each year, so there’s always plenty to choose from.
Co je to za plavbu?
V květnu jsme se vydali s rodinou na 35denní plavbu z Barcelony do Singapuru. Pořádala ji společnost Princess Cruises, která na svých lodích nabízí desítky různých plaveb prakticky po všech mořích světa. Vybrat si můžete Evropu, Asii, Austrálii, Jižní, Střední a Severní Ameriku, plavit se můžete kolem nich, nebo i třeba kolem světa. Cestovat ale můžete i po pevnině, před plavbou nebo po ní, což jsme využili třeba na Aljašce. Zájezdy s Princess můžete ale potkat i v Praze, jedna ze suchozemských tras totiž vede z Budapešti přes Vídeň a Prahu do Německa, kde se teprve nasedne na loď. Velká výhoda je, že program plaveb Princess každý rok různě upravuje a mění, takže je pořád z čeho vybírat.
But this year’s trip was unique, as the route from Barcelona to Singapore by Princess floated only once to take a newly built ship from England to China. We sailed on a brand new Majestic Princess, which was built specifically for the Chinese market. The cruise started in London, but we got on in Barcelona because we didn’t have the time. We’ve spent five weeks on it, which is the longest time we’ve ever been on a boat.
Naše letošní cesta ale byla jedinečná, protože trasu z Barcelony do Singapuru Princess plula jen jednou, aby převezli nově postavenou loď z Anglie do Číny. Pluli jsme totiž úplně novou lodí Majestic Princess, která byla postavena pro čínský trh. Plavba začínala v Londýně, ale my jsme nasedli až v Barceloně, protože jsme neměli tolik času. I tak jsme na ní strávili pět týdnů, což je zatím nejdelší doba, jakou jsme na nějaké lodi cestovali.
Where did you travel on this cruise?
As I wrote earlier, the ship was leaving from London, but we embarked in Barcelona. So, Barcelona – Cartagena – Gibraltar – Toulon – Genoa – Florence & Pisa – Rome – Naples – Athens – Santorini – the Suez canal – Aqaba (Jordan) – Dubai -Abu Dhabi – Cochin (India) – Colombo (Sri Lanka) – Penang (Malaysia) – Singapore.
Kam všude jste se podívali?
Jak už jsem psala, loď odplouvala z Londýna, ale my se nalodili až v Barceloně. Where can you buy Princess cruises?
The easiest way is to look at the official website www.princess.com or through a Google search for travel agency, which offers Princess cruises. We also started years ago, and by chance saw the Princess poster in an exhibition window of travel agency in Prague on Petrské náměstí. On the boat we found out that Princess has a sophisticated program for loyal customers, and since then, we have ordered additional cruises either directly on the ship or through a travel agent.
We booked this unique cruise, a long, long time ahead since it was highly demanded. But of course it doesn’t apply to all routes, depending on where you go, how many days, what cabins you want, but the sooner the better (like planning any holiday). So, on the Internet, you choose either by destination, if you know where you want to go, by clicking on “Destinations” or by the date you want to go to “Plan my Cruise“, where you can choose where to embark and then disembark and how many days you want to sail. If you just want to look and get more familiar in what it looks like, I recommend the “Destinations” option, but if you already know that you are interested in, like cruises around Christmas, surely enter it into a more detailed search option that will show you all the options in your time area. There’s a lot to choose from, I’m myself feeling lost sometimes, but they web pages are well-organized and detailed in terms of price, where it goes and where you can stop, what you can do after anchoring and what kind of boat it is.
Kde jde Princess plavbu koupit?
Nejjednodušší je podívat se na oficiální stránky www.princess.com nebo si přes Google vyhledat cestovku, která plavby Princess nabízí. My jsme tak před lety taky začínali, náhodou jsme viděli plakát Princess ve výloze cestovky v Praze na Petrském náměstí. Na lodi jsme pak zjistili, že Princess má propracovaný program pro věrné zákazníky, a od té doby si další plavby objednáváme buď přímo na lodi, nebo přes cestovního agenta.
Tuhle unikátní plavbu jsme si zarezervovali hodně, ale fakt hodně dlouho dopředu, byl o ni totiž velký zájem. Neplatí to ale samozřejmě pro všechny trasy, záleží kam se vydáte, kolik vás cestuje, jaké chcete kabiny, ale čím dřív tím líp (asi jako každá dovolená). Na internetu si vyberete buď podle cíle, jestli víte kam se chcete vydat, kliknutím „Destinations“, nebo podle data, kdy chcete vyrazit v „Plan a Cruise“, kde si můžete vybrat přistav, kde se naloďuje a pak vyloďuje, a kolik dní chcete plout. Jestli se chcete jenom podívat a zajímá vás spíš, jak to vypadá, doporučuju možnost „Destinations“, ale pokud už víte, že by vás zajímaly plavby třeba okolo Vánoc, určitě si to zadejte do podrobnějšího vyhledavače, který vám ukáže všechny možnosti ve vašem termínu. Je tam fakt z čeho vybírat, až se tam sama někdy skoro ztrácím, ale mají to skvěle zorganizované a podrobně rozepsané, jak cenově, tak kde všude se zastavuje, jaké máte možnosti výletů po zakotvení a jakou lodí se pluje.
One more tip: examine the cruise itinerary very well, into detail. For example, cruises in the Caribbean can be named differently, but they differ only by one stop. It also depends on how many days you sail, some cruises have more stops and some less, since they have to sail longer between ports so you may be 1, 2, or even 3 days and more at sea. Of course, it depends what you want to see, if you’re interested to see as many stops as possible, to see and visit new places or enjoy the convenience and full range of activities on the boat. In the beginning, we have been avoiding sailing with more “sea days”, but I have to say that now we enjoy days without stopping even more. Of course, new places and landscapes are great, but when you have to get up at 6am every day to make a trip (I’ll tell you about these later), you will welcome the day at sea. In particular, there is plenty of activities on the boat, you can swim in the pool, play basketball, ping-pong, go for a spa treatment, fitness, buffet, afternoon tea, take advantage of the many courses and events that are held here, go to the theater, restaurants, cafes, if you are over 18 even Casino (but I’m not a gambler [haha]), and much more to do – I’ve certainly forgotten a lot of things:)
Ještě jeden tip: itinerář si podrobně prohlídněte! Například plavby v Karibiku se můžou jmenovat různě, ale liší se třeba jen jednou zastávkou. Taky zaleží na kolik dní plujete, některé plavby mají víc zastávek a některé mezi přístavy musí déle plout, takže se může stát, že budete 1, 2, nebo i 3 dny a víc na moři. Samozřejmě zaleží, co chcete vidět, jestli stojíte o co nejvíc zastávek a chcete hlavně navštívit nová místa, nebo si raději užít pohodičku a plno aktivit na lodi. My jsme se zpočátku vyhýbali plavbám s více „sea days“, tedy dnů na moři, ale musím říct, že teď už si dny bez zastávky užíváme. Samozřejmě že jsou nová místa a země skvělé, ale když každý den musíte vstávat v 6 ráno, abyste stihli výlet (o výletech povím později), den na moři uvítáte. Hlavně je na lodi plno aktivit a můžete se válet u bazénu, ve vířivce, zahrát si basketbal, ping-pong, zajít do spa, do fitness, do bufetu, na odpolední čaj, využít spoustu kurzů a akcí, které se tu pořádají, zajít do divadla, restaurace, kavárny, pokud je vám nad 18 dokonce i do kasina (ale já nejsem gambler [haha]), a to jsem určitě na spoustu věcí ještě zapomněla:)

How much does it cost?
Difference in prices is great; it depends on many things – date, destination, and type of accommodation. Boats have internal cabins, without windows, but otherwise equally equipped as those with a window or with a balcony. But the inner one costs only a quarter! A lot of people use it because they just sleep in the cabin, and by the morning they are by the pool, on a trip, by the night using all the entertainment options etc. The other end of the spectrum covers suites, large cabins that even have several rooms – these are pretty expensive. All the accommodation is with all the comfort as if you were staying at the hotel. Generally speaking, you will pay for one cruise day from $90 and up, but you have everything in it, the journey, unlimited food, and accommodation. This is true when there are two people in the cabin but some allow having four passengers, while the other two paying much less! All prices can be found at Princess.com
Kolik to stoji?
Rozdíl v cenách je veliký, zaleží to na spoustě věcí – termín, destinace, druh ubytovaní. Na lodi jsou třeba vnitřní kabiny, bez okna, ale jinak stejně vybavené, jako ty s oknem nebo s balkónem. Ty vnitřní ale stojí třeba jen čtvrtinu! Spousta lidí to využívá, protože v kajutě stejně jenom přespí a od rána jsou u bazénu, na výletě, prostě až do noci využívají všechny možnosti zábavy, které na lodi jsou. Na druhém konci spektra jsou suity, veliké kabiny, které mají třeba i několik místností – ty jsou pěkně drahé. Všechno ubytovaní je ale se vším komfortem, jako byste bydleli v hotelu. Obecně jde říci, že za den plavby zaplatíte od nějakých 2 000 korun na osobu, máte v tom ale úplně všechno, cestu, neomezené jídlo, ubytovaní. To platí, když jsou v kajutě dva lidi, do některých se ale pohodlně vejdou čtyři, přičemž ti další dva už platí mnohem míň! Všechny ceny najdete na webové stránce Princess.com
Are the offshore excursions included?
Excursions are paid separately; you can order them in advance via the Internet (you get a discount) or during the voyage. From the beginning, we bought them in almost every harbor, now we choose more carefully and sometimes we organize our trip on our own (it’s cheaper, you can do whatever you want, and you don’t have to get up early).
Jsou v ceně výlety?
Výlety se platí zvlášť, objednat si je můžete předem přes internet (dostanete slevu), nebo až v průběhu plavby. Ze začátku jsme si je kupovali skoro v každém přístavu, teď už si víc vybíráme a někde si výlet raději zorganizujeme sami (bývá to levnější, můžete si dělat co chcete, a navíc nemusíte tak brzo vstávat).
